How NFC jewelry works
The interesting part is the story the jewelry points at. The chip is only the doorbell.
What a tap does
The NFC Forum describes NFC as a contactless radio at a base frequency of 13.56 MHz, with a typical range of up to 2 cm. It also says one side can send power, which is why a tag can run without its own battery. For tags, the Forum says a device that reads an NDEF message starts an action based on what is stored. In their table, an "Internet Link" leads the device to show the linked website. Many phone implementations, they write, hand the tap to the phone's basic reader, which presents a dialog confirming a URL to visit.

Who hosts the content
We do not host it. On this shelf:
- Posthuman Lab says the pendant holds a link you define. The page that opens is wherever that link goes, which is not our site.
- TapMoment says a tap opens their page, and that you update the content on that TapMoment page. They host that page.
- Tribal Expression Jewelry says you program the ring through NFC apps. The destination is the link you store, not a page of ours.
- NFC United's own site describes tags that can hold a message or a URL, and a Momento system that also keeps material in the cloud. That is their platform, not a rule for every brand above. Source: nfcunited.com, read 2026-10-03.
The totwoo Tree of Life locket on this shelf is different. The product data we read describes storage on the locket and an app. It did not describe an NFC tap. Do not treat every "smart" necklace as NFC.
Can the link be changed?
We could not confirm a universal rule. Named vendors differ.
- Posthuman Lab's product page says to use an app called "NFC tools" to install a link of your choice. That is a documented way to write the link on that necklace.
- TapMoment's product data says you can update the linked content anytime through your TapMoment page. That changes what their page shows. It is not a claim that every chip in the world is rewritable the same way.
- Tribal Expression Jewelry says the ring can be programmed through apps. Again, that is their product, not a global standard.
- NFC United says their app can write messages onto tags that use their technology. We are not extending that sentence to other makers.
If the phone changes
The radio is in the phone's hardware, and the operating system is what offers the link, as the NFC Forum describes. The website, when the tag stores a web address, sits on a server. A new phone that can read NFC can still open that address. Content that a vendor stores only inside one app account is a separate case, and we did not find one rule that covers every product here.
